Profiles

Three profiles, three jobs

This is what separates them on the roof.

Standing seam

Panels run eave to ridge and lock together at raised seams, held down by hidden clips. No screws go through the face of the panel.

  • Fewest holes in the roof

  • Clips let the panel expand and contract

  • The highest price per square of the three

Exposed fastener

Ribbed panels are screwed through the face into the deck, with a gasket under each screw. Priced below the other two profiles, and the screws are what to check every few years.

  • Cabins, garages, barns and outbuildings

  • Quick to install, so shorter on site

  • Panel colors from the maker's chart

Metal shingle

Pressed steel panels shaped like shingle, shake or slate. They suit roofs with dormers, valleys and many small planes.

  • Reads as a traditional roof from the road

  • Short panels are easy to carry up steep lots

  • Costs more than a ribbed panel, less than seams

Finishes

Six finishes we show most

At the visit you hold the maker's chips in daylight, because a color on a screen is never the color on a roof.

  • Black metal roof ridge against a cloudy sky

    Charcoal

Dark and quiet. Reads sharply against snow.

  • Grey standing seam metal roof with a clerestory against a white sky

    Slate gray

A middle gray that sits well with stone and weathered wood.

  • White ribbed metal roof edge with vent stacks against a pale sky

    Bone white

Light and reflective. Shows tree debris sooner than dark finishes do.

  • Red corrugated metal roof edge above a pale corrugated metal wall

    Barn red

The classic outbuilding red. Reads best on cabins with dark siding.

  • Copper-clad dormer on a dark standing seam metal roof under a gray sky

    Forest green

Settles into tree cover on wooded lots.

  • A stone and timber house with a copper-coloured metal roof on a wide lawn under a grey sky

    Copper tone

A painted warm brown that echoes copper, without the copper price.

Snow

Snow comes off a metal roof all at once

Metal sheds snow faster than shingle does. Over a front door, a deck or a driveway, that matters.

We put snow guards over the places people walk and park, and we mark them on the spec sheet so you can see where they go and why.

  • Guards go over doors, decks and driveways

  • Lower roofs and valleys are checked for where the snow lands

  • Their cost is a line on your estimate

Sample reviews

Said after the panels went on

“Filomena measured on a Tuesday and the spec sheet reached me that week with the price per square and the total. I could set it beside the shingle number I already had.”

Clive R.Second-home owner, Seven Devils

“Wisly's crew told me which panels would be loud in the rain and what goes under ours to keep it quiet. They were right.”

Freya M.Cabin owner, Todd

“They marked the snow guards over the front steps on the drawing first, then hung them where the drawing said.”
